Join me on my gardening journey as I transform my backyard into an annual food forest.
Three years ago, with the help of my family…we began turning our small suburban backyard into an annual food forest. Large, decorative cypress trees were removed. A dump truck’s worth of wood chips was on our front lawn waiting to be transferred to the backyard. It took several weeks just to move all the wood chips let alone plant a garden. One thing the garden has already taught me is that good things take time and time can develop patience if you allow it.
I have never really been a person with a regular hobby, but gardening has become that for me. Infact, it has become more…it has become a goal of mine to grow a significant portion of my family’s food. I’m not there yet, it’s much harder than I previously thought. I know I can do it with a small space but doing it organically has been tricky as well as learning to preserve what comes out of the garden. Whew – that’s a whole other beast.
So, come join me! I love to share my backyard garden. It is definitely a source of joy to me and it is an excellent teacher. We’ll learn together in the classroom of – tomatoes started from seed and my hatred of squash bugs – blackberry jam that didn’t turn out well and an abundance of strawberries and so much more.
